When water ponds in one specific spot โ a patio, a driveway apron, the bottom of a slope โ a catch basin swallows it and pipes it away. Fast, targeted, effective.
A catch basin is a grated box set into the ground at a low point. Surface water flows in through the grate, drops into the basin (which also traps leaves and debris), and exits through a pipe to a safe discharge point. Think of it as a drain for your yard's floor.
On bigger jobs, we tie several inlets together โ catch basins at the low points, smaller area drains near downspouts, sometimes a pop-up emitter at the discharge end so it stays hidden until water pushes it open. The key is sizing the pipe and setting the slope so the whole network keeps water moving even in a hard downpour, then discharging it somewhere safe and legal โ never onto a neighbor's lot.
A catch basin only works if it's the right size and stays clear. We install basins big enough for real Granite Bay storms and set them so debris settles where it's easy to clean out. If you've got one that overflows or backs up, that's often a sizing or clog issue we can sort โ see drainage repair.
